Made for ease of transition from a modern instrument to a historic type instrument, this is a very easy sackbut to play. A great playing vintage Bach 42B "Corporation" from the early 1970s. These horns are at home playing lead and make upper register playing brilliant and clear. This one seems to have been made at the Los Angeles shop (on Melrose St.) probably dating it to the early 1950s. I spent some time tuning it up, and while it certainly is on the flat side, I was able to get it to 440 pitch with the tuning slide pulled out about a half an inch. Benge are often overlooked but are really well made and great sounding trombones. It is a C series, dating it to around 1962 (my personal favorite year for Elkhart Conns). Starting its life as a single valve 60H (N series serial, 1970), John Sandhagen has installed dependent Instrument Innovation rotary valves and fabricated an open wrap for it. It has a wide open wrap construction. $4700 ($4500 without case) sold. Terrific sounding rare Bach cornet. SOLD, Here's a nice Conn Elkhart 8H in good condition, early 1960s. The triggers have already been split to a modern setup. It had one dent in the slide that was removed and now has a very fast slide. The top tube was destroyed and has been replaced with a .547" Yamaha YBL-605 German bass trombone tube (along with the German Bass lead pipe) Originally, no lead pipe would be there, but the addition of one helps stabilize the playability of the horn and doesn't change the sound. This is a Bach 42G gold brass bell that has recently had a Greenhoe conversion (about 2 weeks ago actually) and has a brand new valve section on it. The instrument is raw and unlacquered and has a beautiful patina on it currently (which could be polished if desired). It was used on many film scores while its time in Los Angeles and is probably the most famous contrabass trombone in the world. All parts are original and matching.There is a patch on the slide crook, although not sure if thats because of a crack or previous repair or as reinforcement on a weak spot in the metal. SOLD. With the proper mouthpiece, it does make a good historic sound. This Mt Vernon is from the early 1960s, features a lightweight nickel slide, a VERY thin 8.5" yellow brass bell with French bead rim. It's a large bore instrument and takes a large shank trombone/euph mouthpiece. It has similar valve interval relationship to a standard bass trombone setup: F/C/Db/AA. The bell flare is paper thin, and had some poor repair work done to it, as a result we decided to play it safe and add a patch (got the metal from a 1930 Alexander french horn bell) as a precaution to guard from the bell splitting or tearing, not the most elegant solution but the bell plays so well, I wanted to ensure that it would last for many years of use and not take a chance that it could be ruined from daily use. 3 lead pipes included. The valve casing and core have just been replaced at the Shires factory with new parts, this is a new valve with vintage tubing. Includes the original Kanstul hard case. This gives a more expansive tone but still retains the clarity of a medium bore slide. This is one of the nicest slide trumpets/soprano trombones you can get. Here is an early 1960s King 2B silversonic in time capsule condition. The silver plated finish is super clean and looks so sharp. This is a really tremendous playing jazzer and I'm having a hard time not keeping for myself (honest truth!) I love the gold bell and nickel slide. This trombone was made in the late 1960s and seems to be all original parts, along with the original lacquer. It's truly a time capsule. $850 with case. It's a medium bore .520" slide with 8.5" bell. Some minor bell rim repairs. This trombone can be incredibly easy to play or quite difficult. Curious, it looks like the original engraving was buffed out and someone tried to re-engrave it and did a mediocre job. The slide on this horn has fantastic action, close to shires quality. A rare opportunity to get a German romantic trombone from one of the original makers. The remaining horns are the demo Hans Hoyer instruments that Vince was instrumental in developing in the early 2000s. They may look bad, but I don't think the inner tubes need to be replaced. Here is a really nice intermediate tenor trombone made by Yamaha. It was made in 1965 and you can see that it uses Mt Vernon parts. It has a press fit leadpipe and has had the nickel over sleeves removed from the outer tubes, lightening the slide actions. Recently chem cleaned and lacquer touched up. It is in very good used condition and while has some minor cosmetic blems, overall a clean example. Based on the Carl Geyer design, it features an inline valve block and open wrap tubing with a medium sized bell. $4000, Yamaha developed this professional large bore trombone with Peter Sullivan of the Pittsburgh Symphony. It's quite a good player, having a warm expansive sound that is easily colored. These medium belled yellow brass horns are all the rage in symphonies and studios alike and the AG2000 is one of the in demand models. 525"/.547" Bach slide. Includes a hard case. It's not perfect cosmetically but you won't find a better playing R4. This one is in good shape but has a lot of cosmetic lacquer wear and some minor dents of love. In 1979 Minick rebuilt it from top to bottom. The horn is a beautiful piece, with a fantastic bell flare. I think it plays fantastic, I've not tried another .547" tenor that is as versatile as this one. This Conn Elkhart 88H is from 1952 (390,xxx serial), prior to the official release of the model 88H. The ii denotes an early variation in the neckpipe and tuning slide. This collection was given to Warren when he was a member of Barbara Streisand's Millennium Tour. Price is $1000 without case. Action is quite good for an old vintage like this. Carl Geyer was a pioneer in the development and evolution of the modern French Horn. The slide is original to the bell section and is in good condition with some dings in the crook from use. It has recently had a Bob Reeves valve alignment and plays particularly well. There isn't really much that can be done, so I recommend the next buyer use a leather grip to cover the pitting and further protect the original brace. It's in very good condition and has a beautiful alto sound, on the bigger side with a unique color and clarity that all Minick trombones seem to possess. You can see it is the older design as it has Christian Lindberg's signature on the bell. This one is a solid player and I think it plays very well. $1500 with case. It has its original lacquer, which shows some worn spots and patina, but no major dents or repairs. Mated with this bell flare is a Shires axial "thayer" valve, Shires TB47 bach style slide and a Shires "S" seamed yellow brass tuning slide. This trombone plays great, leaning slightly to the commercial side. The bell was cut and has a screw ring on it. The lacquer isn't in great shape (and might actually come off when I sonic clean this horn, so no guarantees you'll get it with this patina unless I don't clean it). $5700, Vince Derosa needs no introduction, as one of the most influential hornists who ever lived. The newest trombone from the Getzen Custom division, this model was designed with trombonist Ian Bousfield. It features a one piece 8.5" bell, open wrap valve and .547" orchestral weight slide. It was handpicked by Tommy Johnson and played by him until his passing. An amazing trombone. It is made by the Hirsbrunner company, a small maker in Switzerland. This is a 3 valve Bb bass trumpet, similar to the Conn 4B bass trumpet design. The Cleveland made King 3B trombones are some of the most desirable versions of the 3B. Because the bell is closer to the body, this is a great choice for musicals or pit work when you don't have a lot of overhead clearance. In very nice condition, a few minor cosmetic scratches here and there and the bell section was recently relacquered. The disk base allows for a stable platform that won't tip over. This one was made in the late 1970s and was fabricated in England. This instrument with case is $3000, From the same collection as the Earl Williams model 6. They "Geyer" sound, an inline valve block coupled with a medium throat yellow brass horn and open wrap has become the industry standard for French Horns. Comes with a King hardcase.
